FixMirroring your phone’s screen to a browser stayed blank. If you paired by typing a code — in a TV’s browser, on a PlayStation, an Xbox or a computer — the screen mirror showed nothing at all, while it had always worked on a TV running its own LocalCast receiver. The picture arrives now, and stopping the mirror, or casting a photo or video instead, ends it properly rather than leaving the phone sending to nobody
ImproveRows in the settings, the device list and the action sheets show the usual ripple when you tap them, so it is clear the tap landed
Version 2026.1029.1
October 29, 2026
FixWhen a cast fails, the message and the Report button now say what the TV actually reported. On Chromecast, on a TV browser and on LocalCast TV the reason was being thrown away, so every failure looked the same no matter what had gone wrong
FixCasting to a TV browser: an error on the TV was acted on once a second for as long as it lasted, which kept tearing the connection down again and again. It is handled once per attempt now
Version 2026.1028.1
October 28, 2026
FixRoku: on newer Roku software (OS 14.1 and later) casting failed with no explanation. The TV’s “Network access” for mobile apps is now set to “Limited” by default, which blocks most of what a casting app needs. LocalCast now starts its receiver anyway, and when the Roku still refuses it tells you exactly which setting to change: Settings → System → Advanced system settings → Control by mobile apps → Network access → Enabled
FixRoku: the next photo or video in a queue no longer restarts the receiver on the TV. That restart was the LocalCast logo that flashed between pictures in a slideshow and between videos
ImproveSlideshows: the next photo is prepared while the current one is on screen, and a photo that was shown once is not resized again. Changing pictures is quicker, and a video playing at the same time no longer stutters while a photo is being prepared. A Roku receiver update that keeps the current photo up until the next one is ready follows on the Roku store
FixThe queue sheet shows the whole queue with the playing item in place. Sorting it, for example oldest first, used to collapse the list to the one item that was playing, and only a shuffle brought the rest back
FixAndroid: when a cast fails, the Report button and the error message now carry which device and which error were involved instead of question marks
Version 2026.1026.2
October 26, 2026
NewYour TV is not in the list? Type a code on it instead. The app shows a short code, you open lcast.cc in the TV’s browser — or on a PlayStation, an Xbox or a computer — and type it there. Nothing has to be found first, so this also works with a VPN on, or on a Wi-Fi that keeps its devices apart from one another
NewAndroid: cast straight out of Kodi. Install the free LocalCast add-on in Kodi and pick “Cast with LocalCast” on any film, or let every Play go to the TV automatically — files on the phone, network shares and web streams all arrive. There is a guide at localcast.app/kodi
NewSend feedback from inside the app: Settings → About → Send feedback, and a Report button on any cast that failed. You decide whether a short log goes with it, and it reaches the developer directly instead of going through a store review
FixPhones set to a language that writes its own digits, Arabic above all, could not cast to DLNA players or LG TVs at all — the TV’s address came out unreadable. They work now
FixThe app closed itself at every start for a few people while it searched for devices. One unusual answer from a device on the network was enough
FixFire TV: the stick stops showing “phone connected” once you disconnect, the app no longer offers to install a receiver that is already running, and a stick on Amazon’s older system is no longer filtered out of the device list
FixSwitching a device type on or off in the discovery settings could close the app. So could opening a folder on a DLNA server
FixAndroid: starting a cast no longer leaves the app unresponsive for a moment
FixA link shared from another app keeps its title when the file name carries accents or spaces
FixCasting to a TV browser: the progress bar shows the length of the video that is playing, not the one before it
ImproveRoku: the receiver is on the Roku store now, so the app simply offers to add it instead of counting down to its release
ImproveSwitching tabs in the built-in browser feels smoother, and the Android download is a few megabytes smaller
Version 2026.1024.1
October 24, 2026
FixThe browser finds videos on more sites again: the newest site rules were being overwritten at every start and are now part of the app itself
ImproveThe ad blocker in the built-in browser now blocks everything it can for everyone, instead of only pop-ups and ad videos for most people. Your switch in the settings still decides whether it runs at all
ImproveThe free trial cast is offered to everyone on the purchase screen, not just to a share of users
FixA Roku that also speaks AirPlay no longer shows up twice in the device list, and it stays hidden when you switch Roku off
NewThe newest Fire TV sticks are supported again. They run Amazon’s new system instead of Android, so LocalCast has its own receiver app for them — pick the Fire TV in the list and it starts on the stick by itself
NewStarting a cast on a Fire TV now wakes the TV and switches it to the stick, so you no longer have to change the input by hand
FixFire TV devices appear in the device list again. They had been undiscoverable since a change in November 2025 — sorry to everyone who went looking for theirs
FixAn LG TV is no longer labelled as a Fire TV, and a Fire TV in the list can actually be tapped
NewThe free trial cast is now offered on the purchase screen itself, instead of only when you back out of it
ImproveiPhone and iPad: torrent links and .torrent files are no longer handled by the app. Android is unchanged
NewA note in the device list when a VPN is on: TVs on the home network are usually invisible through one, so the app says so instead of showing an empty list
FixiPhone and iPad: DLNA players, Roku and LG TVs are found again when the phone’s default route is not the Wi-Fi, for example with a VPN on — and a Roku that only shows up over AirPlay stays in the list and is driven as a Roku
FixRoku: until the new receiver is on the Roku store, the app says so and counts down to it instead of sending you to the old store page
NewRoku: LocalCast has its own receiver app for Roku players and Roku TVs. Connect to the Roku and the app opens the receiver’s page on the TV — add it once, and videos, music, photos and subtitles play there with play, pause and jumping to a position, from the phone’s files, a NAS or the browser
NewRoku: if the receiver is missing or out of date, the app tells you right after connecting and the Roku shows the page to add or update it
NewThe browser’s cast button becomes a small play/pause control while something is playing and opens the playback controls with a tap
ImproveAndroid: AirPlay rebuilt to match the iPhone version, including the connection the newest Apple TV expects
ImproveA Roku that also speaks AirPlay now shows up once, as a Roku, instead of as an AirPlay device that could not play anything
FixWeb streams whose pieces are only served with the right headers now play on the TV — every piece of the stream is fetched the same way as the playlist
FixSome web streams reached the TV compressed in a way it could not read; they are unpacked first now
FixThe found-videos list no longer lists the page itself or several copies of one stream
FixiPhone and iPad: the position shown while casting follows the connection that is actually playing
FixRoku: older models get H.264 video, which is what they can decode, instead of HEVC
NewVideos found in the built-in browser can be converted on the phone when the TV cannot play them as they are — so a web video in a format your TV does not understand plays anyway
NewA switch under Settings → Privacy to turn usage statistics off (or on) at any time, in every country
NewAn ad blocker in the built-in browser. Pop-ups, ad videos in the found-videos list and known ad boxes are blocked — on Android ad requests are dropped outright, on iPhone and iPad the page is cleaned up as it loads
NewThe browser now also finds videos that a page merely links to, not just the ones it plays itself
NewChoose how to connect: a TV that speaks several protocols now offers one button per protocol, such as webOS and DLNA on an LG, and the button carrying the running session is marked
NewApple TV: on the newest tvOS, play, pause and jumping to a position work again
NewAirPlay to TVs that refuse a direct link, such as LG and Roku — LocalCast hands the video to the TV’s own player
NewA switch for DLNA TVs that can handle 4K, under Settings → Transcoding: send 4K, 60 fps and high-bitrate video to them untouched instead of converting it first
ImproveJumping to a position in a converted video on Chromecast works now, and the progress bar shows the real length of the film instead of a few minutes
ImproveConverting starts much faster, and iPhones now use their built-in video hardware for it
ImprovePhotos go to the TV as 1080p instead of full camera resolution — noticeably quicker, same thing on screen
ImproveMoving the progress bar while the video is paused now carries on playing from the new spot
ImproveFiles on a NAS or a Windows share report their real running time, so the progress bar and jumping to a position work on them too
ImproveAndroid picks the connection to a TV the same way the iPhone does, so the device list and the playback controls behave alike on both
ImproveThe “Enjoying LocalCast?” question waits for a calm moment after a cast that worked, instead of interrupting you
FixiPhone and iPad: Chromecast was missing from the device list since the previous update. It is back — apologies to everyone who went looking for it
FixLG TVs that ask for permission on their own screen could not be connected at all: the app put up a PIN box nobody could fill. It now asks you to confirm on the TV and connects as soon as you do
FixLG TVs: the connection survives sending the app to the background, play and pause react straight away, and photos cast again
FixDLNA players: pause and resume work, the elapsed time actually moves, and a player that never answers no longer leaves the app waiting
FixSubtitles show up on DLNA players and LG TVs. They are handed over as SubRip now, which is the only subtitle format those players say they understand
FixA subtitle file sitting next to the video on a NAS or a DLNA server is found and offered, and the matching picks the file that belongs to the film
FixA cast no longer skips ahead to the next video in the middle of the one you are watching
FixA TV no longer disappears from the list when you switch Chromecast discovery off and that TV happens to speak Chromecast as well
FixScreen mirroring from an iPhone reaches the TV upright instead of sideways and boxed in
FixSharing a link or a file to LocalCast from another app works again on Android, and on the iPhone it no longer opens the browser by mistake
FixAVI and other older files, sideways-filmed phone videos on Android, and AC3 soundtracks now convert properly
FixPasswords for network shares are kept in the phone’s secure storage only. Anything an older version wrote into the app’s settings is cleared out when you update
FixLocalCast on Apple TV stays in the device list instead of dropping out of it
FixAndroid: removed a part of the app that could make it freeze in the background
FixPlenty of smaller fixes around browser tabs, videos on pages that change without reloading, finding devices, and the connecting screen
ImproveVideos from sites that used to refuse the cast now play: the browser hands the TV the same stream it is playing itself, on iPhone and on Android
FixThe Media Info window no longer spins forever
FixPasting a link in the browser could crash the app. It doesn’t any more
FixAndroid: ready for the newest devices with 16 KB memory pages, as Google Play now requires
FixThe app’s fonts ship inside the app instead of being fetched on first start, so it looks right offline too
Version 2026.1008.1
October 8, 2026
FixOn the newest iOS, the app closed again the moment you opened it. Fixed — and sorry to everyone it hit.
Version 2026.1007.1

FixDevices that were wrongly tucked away as speakers can be shown again
ImproveAndroid starts up faster and more reliably
Version 2026.912.1
September 12, 2026
FixVideos that refused to play, or sat forever on “converting”, now go through

FixStopped endless retries in the background that quietly drained the battery
ImproveGeneral stability
Version 2026.831.1
August 31, 2026
FixAirPlay on LG TVs really plays your video now — type in the code the TV shows once, and it starts
NewOn iPhone and iPad, LocalCast can hand a video over to the TV’s own player, so TVs that refuse a direct link work too
FixAirPlay is no longer hidden away when the same TV also offers Chromecast
FixPicking AirPlay is respected even when you have other connection types switched off
ImproveConnecting copes with slow TVs — a retry or a timeout no longer leaves you stranded on the pairing screen
Version 2026.530.1
May 30, 2026
FixAirPlay pairing — 8-digit HomeKit PINs are now accepted and pairing failures are surfaced clearly instead of hanging
